On 22 October 2026, Eurostat—the official statistical office of the European Union—published its latest official EU-wide data on plastic-packaging waste.
The newly released figures cover the 2024 reporting year and show that Finland recycled only 26.9% of its plastic-packaging waste, compared with an EU average of 42.4%.
This was the second-lowest rate out of all 27 European Union countries, with only Denmark recording a lower rate.
The results demonstrate the urgent need for advanced solutions for difficult plastic fractions that conventional recycling cannot process.
This is where advanced chemical recycling— the solutions Corsair is developing and deploying—can play an important role.
At Corsair Group’s Kaipola facility in Jämsä, Finland, we focus on hard-to-recycle plastics. Through advanced chemical recycling, these materials can be converted into circular liquid feedstock for petrochemical production—providing an alternative to losing valuable resources through burning or incineration.
Finland can do better—and Corsair is here to help.
